On the Eighth Day of Christmas....

On the Eighth Day of Christmas....
On the 8th day of oils, my true love gave to me....a bottle of Thieves oil!

(And we've never been healthier!!!)

Do you know the story behind Thieves oil? It's easy to Google and find it. During the 15th century, there were a few perfumers and spice traders who created a concoction of aromatics, coated themselves with it, then went and pillaged the bodies of the dead and dying, staying well themselves. They amassed a sizable booty, were eventually caught and in lieu of a lesser sentence, they divulged their secret recipe. Thieves essential oil blend was inspired by the thieves' blend of clove, rosemary, cinnamon, lemon and eucalyptus.

This oil is a staple in our house because of the way it supports our immune systems. I take 2-3 drops of Thieves Vitality daily in a capsule for regular immune system support, but I ramp it up to as much as 12 drops 2-4 times daily when I feel I need more help than I would on a normal day. We also diffuse Thieves, often with Purification when anyone is not quite feeling themselves and when needed, we fix a cup of tea, add a bit of honey and 1-3 drops of thieves to help alleviate occasional throat discomfort. This oil is a hot oil, but it's one that we sometimes rub right on our gums and teeth for oral care.

We love that thieves has been infused into all kinds of products that we use daily. We've completely replaced all but one of our cleaners (one with bleach for cleaning our white, porcelain, kitchen sink) with the Thieves cleaner. We've saved a TON of money doing that and we love how safe it is for both the humans and fur babies in our family. It smells SO GOOD, too, and it cleans really well!

Did you know that there’s also Thieves toothpaste? Personally, I can't stand natural toothpastes, but after reading reports over the last few years regarding the harm regular toothpaste is doing to our bodies, I decided to take the plunge and try both Thieves Aromabright and Thieves Detarome Ultra. I instantly fell in love with both options and have never gone back to the one I had used since childhood!

Hand purifier, mini-spray, foaming soap, mouthwash, laundry detergent, dish & dishwasher detergent, fruit and veggie wash, cleaning wipes, MINTS (YUM!!!), cough drops, hard lozenges and more - so many Thieves products to love, so many ways to help you stay healthy and well!

On the Seventh Day of Christmas...

On the Seventh Day of Christmas...
On the 7th day of oils, my true love gave to me, a bottle of Copaiba!

One of the great things about Copaiba is that supports the body’s healthy response to inflammation, which is a reason why it's often used in conjunction with other oils.

Copaiba is fantastic for healthy muscle and bone support and it's one that we really rely on for supporting joint health in our family. In our house, any one of us can be found rubbing it on knees, ankles and the rotator cuff area, sometimes on its own, but often layering it on top of PanAway, Deep Relief or Aroma Siez. We also like to combine Copaiba, Idaho Balsam Fir and Frankincense and apply it topically with a bit of coconut oil to areas needing relief from occasional pain.

Not only that, it's also great for upper respiratory health. When we're needing some support in that regard, we layer it on top of RC or Breathe Again applied topically over our sinuses and lungs.

Other uses include providing emotional balance / mood lifting / calming and also supporting the skin, the cardiovascular and the nervous systems.

Copaiba wasn't one that was part of our oil collection early on, but now I can't see being without it and I even have it on my bedside at this point so I can apply it to my knee before I go to sleep. I'm so glad it's now part of the starter kit because it really is an oil that's so versatile and compliments the other oils so well!

On the Sixth Day of Christmas...

On the Sixth Day of Christmas...
On the sixth day of oils, my true love gave to me....a bottle of Purification!

My opinion? This oil is an unsung hero with more uses than you'd ever imagine! Here are a few of our favorites:

  • It's fantastic for addressing non-cystic acne and the reason why our eldest went from skeptic to believer! Spot apply or use it in a DIY moisturizer, such as in the recipe I posted a couple of days ago.
  • Use it on it's own or as part of a DIY "outdoor spray" to keep unwelcome, tiny, flying guests at bay.
  • Put in stinky (read "athletic boy" or kitty-marked) laundry to freshen it - just add a drop or two to your washer as the load starts or put it on dryer balls to freshen a load that’s been sitting longer than intended.
  • Put a drop or two on cotton balls and place in smelly cleats or sneakers or put a bit on one or two paper towels that you place under the seats of your car or at the bottom of your garbage cans. You'll be SO glad you did!
  • Mix 15-20 drops in 16-24 oz of baking soda, let sit for one hour, then sprinkle on football pads and other athletic equipment or bags. Let sit for one hour, then shake it out. It will be much easier to get through each sports season when you do!
  • Inhale on flights to support your immune system while being exposed to whatever may be circulating in the air.
  • Rub a bit on the outside of your throat when it's not feeling quite up to par.
  • Diffuse in any room of the house needing the air to be freshened or put 10-12 drops in a 2-3 oz glass spray bottle and use as a DIY air freshener in your bathrooms.
See what I mean?  Purification has a WIDE range of really PRACTICAL uses!

On the Fifth Day of Christmas...

On the Fifth Day of Christmas...
On the 5th day of oils, my true love gave to me....a bottle of PanAway!

And after any LONG day of being on my feet or following exercise, my body always thanks him for it! Oh, my word! I LOVE the "icy / hot" feel of this oil and the smell that reminds me of old-school muscle rubs that I used back in the day...

Wintergreen, helichrysum, clove and peppermint are the oils that make up this wonderful blend. It's phenomenal for alleviating occasional aches and pains associated with exercise or just overdoing it, as well as with helping to address the pain associated with occasional headaches. For either issue, we simply rub in a drop or two on the area needing it.

Using a bit of coconut oil as a carrier oil when applying PanAway is a good idea because it helps with absorption of the oil into the body, enables you to cover a larger area with less oil, and helps prevent any kind of irritation on sensitive skin.

Our FAVORITE way of using it is hands-down the following recipe that we call our "Occasional Soreness Cream." A jar of this cream remains at the ready on top of my bathroom dresser / cabinet for whenever I need it. It's especially nice following a hot shower that also helps to work the kinks out. The cream is so great to have on hand and easy to apply whenever needed!

1 Cup Coconut Oil, softened
10 drops Valor
10 drops Panaway
10 drops Peppermint

Mix for 10 minutes with a hand or stand mixer, then store in a glass jar. Apply to sore areas as needed.

Alternate Recipe - add up to 10 drops each of any or all of the following to the above recipe: Copaiba, Frankincense, Nutmeg, Lavender, Aroma Siez & Lemon Grass. I really like to add in the Copaiba, Lemongrass, and Nutmeg.

Buh-bye soreness! Hellooooo, ahhhhhh......

BTW - this is an oil that can be used on your dogs, too. Just be sure to dilute it according to your pup's weight and size.

***This oil is one that you want to keep out of reach of children due to Wintergreen being in it, which is why it comes with a child safety cap.

On the Fourth Day of Christmas....

On the Fourth Day of Christmas....
On the fourth day of oils, my true love gave to me...a bottle of frankincense!

Ohhh....I always say that there's a reason why this oil was given as a gift to our Savior at His birth - there are simply no oils that compare to this one, with the exception of Sacred Frankincense.

This is a treasured oil by all who know anything about it.  I really encourage you to do your own research and read the extensive studies that have been done on the health benefits of Frankincense and the ways it can help support your body...I think you'll be amazed by what you find!

In our house, we use frankincense for two main reasons - immune system support and healthy skin.

~ It goes into our capsules regularly, especially when we might be starting to feel like we’re needing an extra immune system boost. It also helps support healthy lung function, something I certainly find myself needing in the winter months!

~ It goes into our DIY moisturizers that I make because it helps support healthy skin and addresses normal signs of aging. I simply add 10 drops of frankincense to a ½ cup softened coconut oil, whip it for 10 minutes, then store it in a mason jar. Talk about the savings on face care products and you’ll love how beautiful your skin looks! Even our kids have their own Frankincense moisturizer that I've tweaked with additional oils for the specific needs of their skin. The added benefit? It’s a toxin-free moisturizer, so you’re keeping tons of chemicals out of your home at the same time!

~ This is my go-to oil whenever I have an occasional headache. I put a bit of Frankincense on my right thumb, then press my thumb to the roof of my mouth, hold it there for about a minute, then release. The swift relief is welcome indeed!

~ There's one other use that should definitely be mentioned. I have a couple of friends who have relied on this oil, along with Valor and Joy, to promote emotional well-being and alleviate the occasional "blues" that can be experienced. It's great for its calming and uplifting effects on the emotional system, so it’s also wonderful to use when experiencing occasional anxiety.

In my opinion, frankincense is definitely an oil worthy to be given as a gift to a newborn King!
