Tuesday Tidbit: Surrender & Rest

TUESDAY TIDBIT: I'VE DISCOVERED A SECRET . . .
This is an oil I've really needed lately. I actually started this post on September 27th to send it out that day and am just now getting it out to you. Our son had a 5 day hospital stay (and is totally fine now) and life has remained very "full" since then with lots of transition happening in our lives. It's a GREAT time to Surrender! Sometimes, that's hardest to do at night.

Are you like me? Do you put your head on your pillow and despite your body being VERY ready for bed, your mind decides to solve all the problems of the world and strategize every solution available to mankind?

This little bottle makes a world of difference for me at bedtime and it may do the same for you - SURRENDER! Apply it to the outside of your ears at bedtime and you'll realize your mind has been quieted from thinking through the million things that have transpired during your day.

Why the outside of your ears? Our body has over 1500 vitaflex points. A number of ones related to our emotions are found on the outer ears making that a perfect spot to apply Surrender. (PSA: NEVER put oils INTO your ears!)

When you're well-rested, you're better able to face whatever may come your way on any given day. Surrender your day at the end of the day and rest well!

WHEN THERE'S MORE YOU'RE HANGING ONTO . . . RELEASE!
Sometimes it can seem like tapes are on repeat in your mind, playing the same words over and over and over. You want to let go, but it feels like you can't. That's especially true when past trauma has been triggered.

Apply Release over your liver or heart. Our livers store anger and when Release is applied there or over your heart where you feel lots of emotions, it will help you release what you've been hanging onto, giving you a greater sense of peace and balance within,

Fair warning . . . don't be surprised if you cry after using it. Tears are signs of release and they can be very healthy!

BUH-BYE NEGATIVITY!
When you're surrounded by negativity or fighting feeling negative yourself, it's hard to have a sense of safety and security in your internal world.

Apply White Angelica in your belly button, over your heart, or on your shoulders, or diffuse it.

Positive outlooks in life are a really valuable thing!

SHOPPING MADE EASY . . .
I've created a wishlist for "Letting Go" and wanted to share it with you. These three are included, along with a few other favorite, must-haves of mine, and a couple of collection suggestions.

Honestly? There are SO many oils I could have included. Did you know if you use the search bar in your virtual office, you can search for emotions or anything else you want suggestions for and any related product support will come up? That was a new tip I learned this week!

A Few of My Favorite Things: Holiday Emotional Support

A Few of My Favorite Things: Holiday Emotional Support
Let's be real. While the holidays can be a time of joy, celebration and love, it can also be one of the most stressful times of the year.

Pressure to find the "perfect" gifts, stay in budget, get all the shopping done, attend and host parties, have clothing that you feel good in for those parties, and being with family and friends who might not be the easiest to be around all take their toll on our emotional health.

Not only that, the holidays can be extremely difficult for those who are missing a loved one or who are apart from those they love, including our military families.

Thankfully, there are a lot of oily options that provide incredible emotional support. Young Living even has a Feelings Collection of oils specific to the task. The oils in that collection (Harmony, Forgiveness, Inner Child, Present Time, Release, Valor) really are some of my top favorites for emotional support. When I explain what kind of support the oils provide when it comes to emotional health, I always say that those particular oils are their name.

While I would definitely recommend investing in the Feelings Collection (Item #3125, $181 whsl, $238.16 retail), I'm going to highlight for you 6 of my favorite emotional support oils that I rely on throughout the year, but especially during the holiday season. (Two happen to also be included in the Feelings Collection.) These oils can be diffused, applied on the wrists or behind the ears, or even over the heart.

Stress Away - it does what it's named. I affectionately call it my "liquid gold" and I carry it in my purse wherever I go. This is a "don't ever be without it oil" in my opinion. Developed to help support the body's natural response to stress, you'll love it's ability to bring calm to your inner world. It also comes in a roll-on!

Tranquil - Stress not your nemesis, but occasional anxious feelings your thing? Tranquil will be your best friend! It comes in a roll-on, making it extra handy. Because of that, this is topical application only.

Valor - Need a little liquid courage this holiday season? Valor will help you feel empowered, confident and grounded. Valor was our gateway into the oily world and I always call it my "desert island oil." If I were stranded and could only have ONE oil, VALOR would be it!

Release - Got powerful emotions that you just wish you could let go of? This is your oil for emotional release and balance! This oil can be diffused, but I especially like to apply it topically on my wrists and over my heart. I also take deep breaths of it from what I've applied to my wrists.

Peace & Calming - This oil is truly its name. Lots of mommas love using this oil with their little ones, particularly during those more challenging hours of the day and at bedtime. Many oilers wear this throughout the day like perfume. It will have you singing, "All is calm..." this holiday season!

Joy - wonderfully floral, this oil is another that really is its name. Did you know that it was originally named "Love"? Try diffusing 1-2 drops with Citrus Fresh to bring the sunshine in through these shorter days. It's also wonderful worn like perfume.

White Angelica - Feeling a little negative and cranky? This oil is great for energy balance and spiritual awareness. It's known to be a "protecting" oil and is a sweet reminder of the angels watching over us.  Many apply it to their shoulders. It's also great applied to the pulse points or diffused. This oil can only be purchased via Essential Rewards.

All of these oils are great for kids, too! Do your research for any needed dilution ratios. Your kids will love these oils as much as you do!

May your holiday season be merry and bright!

Bonus: Here's the protocol for using the Feelings Collection!

Keeping It Fun (Or At Least Balanced!)

Keeping It Fun (Or At Least Balanced!)
This post is shared by a dear friend, Candy Raymond. When I read it, I knew I had to ask if she'd be willing to be a guest blogger and was delighted when she agreed!

Have I ever talked to you about the limbic system?  You may remember hearing something about it when you first learned about essential oils.  (Of course, we covered a LOT of information then so, if you don’t remember, don’t feel bad.)

The limbic system is a relatively small part of the brain but it is HUGE with regards to governing our emotions, memories and behaviors.  I won’t bother with all of the technical stuff; that’s what Google is for, right?  But here are a few specifics of what the limbic system is involved with:

  • Controlling emotions
  • Regulating eating, hunger, and thirst
  • Responding to pain and pleasure
  • Controlling functioning of the autonomic nervous system, including things like pulse, blood pressure, breathing and arousal
  • Controlling aggressive or violent behavior
  • Responding to sensory information, especially the sense of smell
Ever wonder why certain smells conjure up memories and even physical feelings so vividly? Our sense of smell is unique compared to our other senses  because it bypasses parts of the brain that other types of sensory information often can't.  This is the reason smells can often cause immediate and strong emotional reactions based on memories;  bringing us back to past events within milliseconds, making us feel a certain way based on past events, whether we realize why we’re suddenly feeling that way or not.

Essential oils can have dramatic effects on limbic function and how you feel. The fragrances they hold, make their way into your bloodstream then travel directly through the blood/brain barrier very quickly.

Research shows that the olfactory bulb sends information to the hippocampus, and the hippocampus then passes it along to the main olfactory bulb. This is how memories and smells become tied together.  Once engaged, sensors emit strong emotional signals based on smells starting from your limbic system and spreading throughout the rest of your body to places like your heart and digestive tract.

Because essential oils can impact memory, balance hormone levels and  support healthy limbic system functions; scientific evidence shows that inhaling essential oils may be one of the fastest ways to create physiological or psychological benefits. These include decreasing anxiety, anger or even fatigue.

Because essential oils are absorbed into the bloodstream when they are inhaled, using a diffuser can help you experience the benefits of essential oils, or you can directly inhale them from the bottle or a cotton swab. For example, diffuse lavender to reduce stress, orange to improve your mood, frankincense for spiritual connection, and peppermint to improve focus and energy.

(Much of the above information comes from Dr. Axe, ”What Is the Limbic System? (Plus How to Keep It Healthy & the Role of Essential Oils)”).

There is so much more to the limbic system and how it effects our physical and emotional well being but I’ll stop with the science there.  While I’m not a doctor or even a scientist, and therefore am limited in what I’m allowed to say, I encourage you to do your own research anytime you want to dig deeper into what essential oils may be able to do.

For today, I can tell you some of my favorite oils that support the limbic system function of balancing emotions.  Again, these are just a few of the amazing oil blends that D. Gary Young studied and formulated for emotional support.  There are others that may turn out to be your favorites.

Brain Power

This is one I keep in my purse (along with Stress Away, Lavender and Peppermint).  Brain Power is a blend of essential oils high in sesquiterpenes—like Sacred Sandalwood, Blue Cypress, and Frankincense—to promote a sense of clarity and focus when used aromatically.  I don’t know about you, but I often find myself in a brain fog; usually when I feel overwhelmed or over-tired.  I apply Brain Power to the bottoms of my big toes and/or on my brain stem and crown of my head. It’s like getting a “second wind” to carry on. This one is a good choice for kids too, as is the next one.

Clarity

When you need a boost of support for focus and sorting through information, I’d recommend Clarity.  I usually diffuse it, but you can apply it to the same areas as you would Brain Power. Clarity blends Basil, Rosemary, Peppermint, and other essential oils for an aroma that invites a sense of clarity and alertness.

Motivation

The powerful scent of Motivation may promote feelings of action and accomplishment when diffused.  Don’t feel like getting after a project?  Is your “To Do” list longer than your arm?  Diffuse this for about 30 minutes and see what happens!  (That’s what I’ll be doing later today when I need to declutter my art supply closet.)

Transformation

Maybe like me, you have some mindsets that need adjusting.  The oils in Transformation include Idaho Blue Spruce, Palo Santo, and Ocotea and this combination can empower you to replace negative beliefs with uplifting ones when diffused.  When my mind tells me “I can't,” I use this to move past limiting beliefs or destructive patterns toward a new and healthy mindset.

Joy

We all need a little mood lifting sometimes.  Some days, I don’t always know why, I just feel “off”.  Joy is great for uplifting my mood and balancing emotional ups and downs.  I usually apply it over my heart and on the back of my neck, but it’s also great in the diffuser so everyone can benefit from this sweet, citrusy, floral combination.

Every oil that comes in the Premium Starter Kit can have a benefit on your limbic system function. (Yes, even DiGize! ).  So, as you can guess, there could be an entire series just on essential oils for emotional support.

For now, “Don’t Worry. Be Happy!”  (That song reference may be lost on some of you.  You know how to find it. ) ;)
