Teach Me . . .
Teach me more about You, how You work and how You move, so that I can walk onward in Your truth until everything within me brings honor to Your name. (Psalm 86:11, TPT)
Ever read a verse in the Bible that makes you feel like your heart and spirit are being pulled out of your chest in longing to draw nearer to Him? That’s how this verse made me feel this morning. It’s hard to even put into words how it felt, and still feels, but there’s such a drawing within me to Him.
I’ve grown so much in my faith and understanding of God, and continue to, because of what I’ve learned from incredible men and women who each passionately pursue His heart, but nothing can replace learning about God directly from Him.
I say it all the time – He still speaks . . . every day, constantly, and He’s always in loving pursuit of our hearts, even when we’ve walked away from Him.
He speaks through His Word, through music, through things that happen in the world around us, as whispers to our hearts, and at times, audibly. We can hear Him speak through a growing garden, clouds in the sky, birds in flight, and countless other common occurrences that, if we’re paying attention, will teach us about His heart, His thoughts, how He works, and moves.
Rooted and steeped in truths of who He is and who we are in Him, we can move forward with power and authority as those who understand what it means to know and be known by Him. In turn, we can’t help but live as those who do what Jesus did while on the earth and greater because we believe what He said we would do, so we do it. (John 14:12) As we do, we bring honor to His name.
Nothing else is above that in my mind. I just want Him – ALL of Him. I want to know more of Him. Understand His thoughts and ways more deeply. Capture His heart more fully. Live before Him with abandon and surrender. Be drawn onward . . . saying yes over and over to Him, knowing He’ll show up each time I do.
Maybe this doesn’t fully make sense, but sometimes words fail me. All I know is that there’s a holy longing within me to know more of Him when I read this verse.
What does it speak to you?
